What I do
I’m an aspiring fiction author and developmental editor. I spend as many waking hours as possible reading, writing, and doing yoga. Oh, and chasing my toddler around.
Why I do it
I’ve been a reader ever since I was a kid. I lived out in the country and had to take the bus to school. I had a 45-minute ride. Each way. Daily. As I bounced along on those brown plastic seats, I was also adventuring with storybook characters. My first favorites were The Phantom Tollbooth, James and the Giant Peach, Encyclopedia Brown, and so many others. I admire the work of JK Rowling, Richelle Mead, Will Thomas, Jane Austen, Sarah J. Maas, Julie Kagawa, Jim Butcher, Cassandra Clare, Naomi Novik, Melissa Marr, Helen Fielding, PG Wodehouse, Amor Towles, Nina George, Neil Gaiman, Amanda Hocking, Brene Brown, Liz Gilbert, Erin Morgenstern, and Marie Lu to name a few.
In my professional journey, I’ve been a proofreader, collator, bookseller, clothing sales associate, college student activities advisor, moonlighting resume writer, and financial aid counselor. In my heart, I’ve always been a book nerd. I geek out a little bit about grammar, etymology, and languages. I derive an almost absurd amount of satisfaction from finding the mot juste.
I hope that my blog brings some light and levity to your writing and reading journeys.
